Sexually Transmitted Disease
A comprehensive diagnostic and treatment is available.
There are many STDs (sexual transmitted diseases). 2 important ones are Syphilis and HIV. Both can be detected by Blood tests and treated. Syphilis with a maximum three injections, while HIV requires long term pills. Untreated, both lead to serious consequences. Gonorrhea, Chlamydia and Trichomoniasis also present with pain and discharge during urination. All can be early treated if picked up early. Condom use can prevent all the above if used properly.
Minor STDs include Herpes, warts and molluscum are easily treatable but not always preventable by condoms. STDs can be passed through oral, genital and anal sex. Generally men show symptoms while women tend to be silent. Hence regular checking and testing for STDs is a good idea. Dr. Ratnam has trained in STD and was the first to start HIV clinic in Middle Road Hospital and has several decades of experience in the field.
